Thunder River Studio boxes are made in a small wood shop using domestic and exotic woods with inlaid art glass and new and vintage marbles. They’re finished with clear oil stain and a hand applied oil finish, or shellac and paste wax. I use minimal stains, preferring to achieve the range of colors by allowing the wood to speak for itself.
Where I have designed a box with a specific use in mind, it’s indicated. Other boxes can be used for a variety of purposes including as a valet box, for keepsakes, as decorative objects, or to organize a desk or counter. I use mine for my cellphone, wallet, keys, ring and watch.
The woods I use include domestic quarter-sawn white and red oak, red oak, hickory, alder, poplar, quilted and curly maple, and birch. Exotic woods include mahogany, ipe, padauk, tropical walnut, leopardwood, goncalo alves and canarywood.
